The National Examination Council (NECO) has released the 2016 results for the June/July Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) affirming that over 88 per cent of the students getting up to five credits and above in critical subjects,n including English and Mathematics.
According to the examination body, this year's results showed an 88.51% per cent improved performance as against last year's which was 87.51%.
NECO Registrar, Professor Charles B. U. Uwakwe wile announcing the results at the NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State on Friday, pointed out that "the outcome of the senior school certificate examination was a huge success".
He attributed the overwhelming performance to the adherence of teachers to standard teaching procedure and imparting the right knowledge on the students.
He also noted that the sacrifices of the NECO staff , made it possible for the examination to be released 60 days after the writing of the last paper which also coincided with one month of his assumption of office as the Chief Executive of the body.
A breakdown of the result showed that of the 1,027,016 candidates that registered for the examination, 1,022474 took the papers they registered while the percentage of candidates who secured five credits and above, including English and Mathematics per state this year stood at 96. 31 per cent.
